Communications Assistant

Overview

The Foundling Museum is seeking to appoint a part time Communications Assistant to assist in marketing and publicising the Foundling Museum, its exhibitions and activities, including promotions, advertising, direct mail, online, joint marketing, on-site publicity and print distribution.

Description

Salary:            £20,000 pro rata

Hours:            14 hours (2 days per week)

Contract:        6 month, fixed term

The Foundling Museum tells the story of the Foundling Hospital, which was established in 1739 to care for London’s abandoned babies.  The Hospital was the brainchild of the pioneering philanthropist Captain Thomas Coram, who counted amongst his supporters the artist William Hogarth and the composer George Frideric Handel.  The Museum continues to celebrate the vision of these three men, by enabling artists to create a living dialogue between their forebears and vulnerable children today.  We encourage people to participate in this dialogue as visitors, collaborators and supporters.

The Museum contains the Foundling Hospital Collection which spans four centuries and contains paintings, sculpture, prints, manuscripts, furniture, clocks, photographs and ephemera.  The Museum also houses the Gerald Coke Handel Collection, the world’s largest private collection of Handel memorabilia and an internationally important research resource.  In addition to displaying the Collections, the Museum mounts three major temporary exhibitions a year, which illuminate different aspects of the Foundling Hospital story, alongside smaller displays, Collection interventions, artists’ commissions and projects.

The Communications Assistant sits within the Marketing & Communications team, which consists of the Marketing & Communications Manager, with additional support from the Assistant Front of House Manager and recruited volunteers.  This post assists the Marketing & Communications Manager in marketing and publicising the Foundling Museum, its exhibitions and activities, including promotions, advertising, direct mail, online, joint marketing, on-site publicity and print distribution.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, hard working individual with proven administrative skills and the confidence to manage small scale projects. Whilst it is not essential that you have previous marketing or media experience, you will be an excellent communicator (written and verbally), with well developed IT skills including Macs and photoshop with the ability to work well under tight deadlines.

In return the Foundling Museum can offer you 25 days annual holiday (pro rata for part-time staff), discount from the Foundling Museum Café and on Museum publications and books, as well as the opportunity to develop yours skills in a positive and encouraging environment.
