Guercino: St Francis Recovered by Sir Denis Mahon, Francesco Gonzales and Rossana Vitiello

This book celebrates the 2006/7 exhibition Guercino: St Francis Recovered. The exhibition provided a rare opportunity to view the then recently recovered Guercino painting of Saint Francis receiving the Stigmata, which was stolen from a church in Italy in 1973 and found twenty five years later in Switzerland. The painting, which had never been on display before in this country, was exhibited together with drawings and the documents relating to its finding and extensive restoration. This discovery and restoration is explore in the book.
