These questions, along with the tokens in the Foundling Museum collection, inspired jewellery designer Alex Monroe to create this beautiful combination lock necklace. When parents left their infants at the Foundling Hospital they often left a small token: a unique item that they could use as an identifier, should they ever be in a place to reclaim the baby. The tokens also take on a second meaning, one far more significant than the first. These everyday items become physical manifestations of the love and hope parents had for their children. 

Alex Monroe's exclusive design is a contemporary twist on the traditional tokens and the perfect gift for your loved one. Beautifully hand-crafted, this locket is made of silver and 22kt gold plate on a 29 inch silver chain. The tumblers can be adjusted to spell various words, but only one secret word will open the lock.
