Handel the Philanthropist

Wednesday 7 January - Sunday 28 June 2009

Marking the 250th anniversary of Handel’s death (23 February 1759) this exhibition is in partnership with the Royal Society of Musicians with which, as the “Fund for Decay’d Musicians”, Handel was also extensively involved.  This exhibition will be the most significant event in London marking this important anniversary and will focus on Handel’s charitable life as well as his musical career in the 18th century that was intrinsically linked to his altruistic activities. Works of art and items of historical value will be displayed alongside an active public programme of concerts and events celebrating the composer’s life and achievements.
