Exchange: 1,000 Good Deeds at the Foundling Museum

14 June 2013 - 15 September 2013, 10:00 - 17:00

Free with Museum admission. Booking not required.

5 SEPTEMBER - General Reception.

To Celebrate International Day of Charity, the museum is allowing EVERY visitor the chance to take part in Exchange (until cups run out!). One day only.

Leading ceramic artist Clare Twomey has inscribed individual good deeds onto over 1,000 cups and saucers, encouraging visitors to undertake a deed in exchange for a piece of this unique site-specific installation commissioned for the Foundling Museum.

Twomey’s concept for her work, Exchange, is inspired by the acts of exchange and philanthropy that lie at the heart of the Foundling Hospital – the UK’s first children’s charity and England’s first public art gallery. Each day of the exhibition, ten people will be invited to choose a cup from the hundreds laid out on tables. In exchange for agreeing to complete the good deed, they may keep the cup. The exchange will take place at 12.30.

Feedback your good deeds by email, on facebook or tweet #exchangegooddeeds. Feedback will start to appear on exchangegooddeeds.tumblr.com as the exhibition progresses. Get involved in the good deed exchange online.
