The Foundling Museum is pleased to be celebrating Handel's 327th birthday, in partnership with Goldsmiths, University of London, and the Amadè Players. This concert is a fundraising event, in support of the Amadè Players' Messiah: Oratorio in Education project to be held in March 2012.

During his London years, Handel formed a strong relationship with the Foundling Hospital, the home for disadvantaged children founded by Thomas Coram. He regularly directed performances of Messiah to raise funds for the needy children, and left a set of parts to the Hospital upon his death to maintain the musical and financial legacy. He also created a new work, titled The Foundling Hospital Anthem, or Blessed are they that considereth the Poor. This wonderful piece for voices and orchestra includes highlights of other, earlier works, and ends with the chorus, Hallelujah, from Messiah.
